Map tap games

Map tap games are geography quizzes where the answer is a coordinate, not a typed string. MapTap is one of them: a 3D globe, a clue, a pin.

Daily history globe

The MapTap daily publishes five locations at 00:00 UTC. Clues lean on this day in history: 6 June on Omaha Beach, 20 July in Houston, 4 October at Baikonur. You still need the map. Knowing “France” is not the same as tapping Calvados. The scoring curve pays city error in the first tens of kilometres and then falls off toward zero near 16,250 km.

Round weights 1, 1, 2, 3, 3 make the back half of the run the real test. A 40-point miss on location five costs 120 toward the 1,000 total. That is why the daily feels different from an unweighted five question quiz.

Practice and unlimited

MapTap practice is the free drill. It uses the same globe textures, the same haversine radius, and the same country floors. It does not stamp the daily finished flag. Search volume for MapTap practice free maps here. If five locations are not enough, MapTap unlimited deals a longer deck from the same pool. Unlimited totals are raw sums. They are not claimed as daily 1,000 scores.

Map tap flags

Find the flag is the flag mode. The clue is a flag emoji. The target is a country centroid, but the country polygon is what matters for the 25-point floor. A tap in Western Australia still counts as Australia. A tap in French Guiana counts as France in the Natural Earth 110m set when that polygon is attached that way. Read the reveal line.

Flag mode is the right warm-up if daily clues feel like trivia and you keep missing the country. Country floors are most of the difference between a 10 and a 25 on a rough pin.

Sports MapTap

MapTap sports and sports MapTap are the same page. Venues replace treaties: Wembley (1966 final), Maracana (1950 Maracanazo), Azteca (1986 quarter-final), Fenway (opened 1912), Indianapolis Motor Speedway (first 500 in 1911), Circuit de Monaco (1929), Melbourne Cricket Ground (first Test, 1877). If you know the sport and not the city, you still need the globe.

Archive as a map tap game

MapTap archive is previous days, not a randomiser. Puzzle numbers count from 22 June 2024. Ninety days remain open. That is the page for MapTap previous days. Each archive URL is canonical for that number so a shared #834 always means 3 October 2026.

What this family is not

Map tap games on this site are not Street View, not a country silhouette, and not a word ladder. GeoGuessr asks where a photograph was taken. Worldle asks you to name a shape. Globle gives hotter and colder country guesses. MapTap gives you the name or the story and asks you to point. If you want a comparison table, use games like MapTap.

The globe uses NASA Blue Marble colour and a topology bump. Credits for those datasets sit on the globe footer line. Country detection uses world-atlas 110m. Scoring constants are documented on how to play. The browser app path is MapTap gg app.
